Here is our fifteenth video in the Macktion CES video series from TabletRoms, and we find Macktion checking out the Padlette booth. This product was obviously inspired by artists. Padlette's are simply accessories that help any user hold onto their tablet and use them one-handed, and effectively convert your tablet into an artist's palette. Pretty simple little invention!

We know how you love a good benchmark, so we took the just released Motorola Droid 4 through it's paces on Quadrant Standard and AnTuTu. The handset pulled numbers that are to be expected with a top tier phone of these specs. Despite "good", "bad" or " average" numbers the real test is how the device stands up in real world use. The Droid 4 delivers a very solid experience and is very fast in my experience. You can even throw live wallpapers on the handset and notice very little performance degradation.
Quadrant Standard Score: AnTuTu:- RAM: 834
- CPU Integer: 1663
- CPU Float Point: 1330
- 2D Graphics: 293
- 3D Graphics: 1202

An analyst at Pacific Crest, Chad Bartley, is predicting great things for the Amazon Kindle Fire. He has increased his initial projections for sales of the Kindle Fire this year from 12.7 Million to 14.9 Million. Additionally, he also either has some insider information, or feels overly confident in his personal crystal ball predictions. Bartley indicated that he believes Amazon is working on a 7-inch successor to the current Kindle Fire that will have some enhanced specs, and he also believes that Amazon is designing a 9-inch follow-up to the Kindle Fire. Of course, previously, we have heard these kinds of rumors before, so it could just be speculation on his part, but it would be interesting news if it turns out to be true.
As always, we will keep our eye out for any new info and let you know.

In case you haven't seen this commercial for the Amazon Kindle Fire, we thought it would be fun to share it. This new ad poke some not-so-gentle fun at the price of the iPad devices from Apple. Of course, it probably isn't a realistic comparison to pit the Kindle and Kindle Fire directly against the iPad2, but it makes for some humorous quick entertainment. Also, you gotta give Amazon props for good strategic marketing.

It seems that folks with the Verizon LTE version of the Motorola XOOM are being left out in the cold for a while, as far as an update to Android 4.0 is concerned. A new update, version HLK75H, is rolling out "soon" but it is only an incremental update with some bug fixes, and not full blown Ice Cream Sandwich. This update includes only a couple of things: support for dual International Mobile Subscriber Identities (IMSI), and a bugfix for restoring data connectivity after exiting Airplane Mode.
This seems a bit frustrating. We know that Ice Cream Sandwich will work on the device, since everyone with a WiFi version has been enjoying it for quite some time already. It seems that somehow Verizon and/or a combination of Verizon and Motorola are holding back the LTE version. Could it be a technical issue with the 4G LTE, or is it simply corporate bureaucracy at its finest? What do you guys think?

The guys at PhoneArena were able to get their hands on some pics of a new phone from HTC that will possibly be the first HTC device with Ice Cream Sandwich. Although the phone's appearance and styling is sadly not very different from every other HTC phone we have seen over the last few months, it has some decent specs:- 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor
- 1GB RAM
- 8MP camera with a VGA front-facing camera
- 4G LTE
- AMOLED screen that is probably a 4.3"
- Sense UI 4.0
Current speculation is that the phone is either the HTC Fireball or possibly even a new HTC Incredible 3. This is based upon the phone's styling on the back, although since it is a prototype unit, the design could change before it is released. There was no other info to go along with the photos concerning a timeframe for launch, but, as always, we will keep an eye out for you guys. The source link has a few more pics of the device.

Security systems seem to fall quickly with today's tech, but this particular bit of news makes you wonder how such an obvious design flaw made it past Google to begin with. Just one day after we found out about an exploit in Google Wallet that would allow a phone thief to "brute force" hack his way into your mobile wallet account, a far easier method than the previous one has been discovered. In fact, this easier method doesn't even require your phone to be rooted, nor does it require the thief to be very tech-savvy at all. Here's a quote from the Talk Android article with the details,
Basically all individuals have to do to access a user’s funds is clear the data in the app settings— which forces Google Wallet to prompt them to enter a new PIN. After the new PIN is entered, it’s as simple as adding a Google Prepaid Card tied to the device and then there the ability to access any available funds.
That's pretty scary, and what is even more scary is that this has been confirmed by multiple sources, and Google even issued a statement on the issue,
”We strongly encourage anyone who loses or wants to sell their phone to call Google Wallet support toll-free at 855-492-5538 to disable the prepaid card. We are currently working on an automated fix as well that will be available soon. We also advise all Wallet users to set up a screen lock as an additional layer of protection for their phone.”
You can see the exploit in action in the video above. Hmmm... if I wanted to use the Google Wallet service, I think I would consider waiting until Google worked out a fix for this. What do you guys think?

You can get the Motorola Droid 4 that we reviewed yesterday at your local Verizon store for $199.99 on contract today. Of course, it behooves us to share at least some of the other places and prices that you can find the device. Wirefly has the phone for only $149.99 on a new or renewed contract. It looks like Amazon "one-upped" Wirefly though, at least in the "new contract" department: Amazon has it for $99.99 on a new contract and $149.99 for a renewal.
Choices... choices...
